What's your background? Art school? Self-learner? Art for Dummies?
N: I inherited the ability to draw from my mum, started painting graffiti in 1997, and went on to endure a degree in Illustration at Bournemouth Arts Institute in 2004.
H: I’m currently at university studying fine art, but I would consider myself a self-learner.
How will you describe your art for somebody who doesn't know your stuff?
H: anatomical mathematical realism I suppose or something like that.
N: umm disturbed painterly realism?
What are your favourite materials to work with?
N: tins, black transparent Belton, fingers, emulsion, acrylic and household gloss. Mixtures of water and oil based paints.
H: Spraypaint, hands, eyes, anything that makes mess or colour
How long does it take you to produce a piece? Do you start out with a sketchbook or do you freehand all the way?
Sketchbooks filled with ideas combined with found photography, the time all depends on the painting and mood, there are good days and bad days.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Most of our inspiration comes from the uglier things in life, disease, death, symmetry, the exact size of everything, cycles, maths, science, mental disorders, the fragility of the human body, things too small to see.
Do you paint/work outside sometimes? Where can we see your stuff?
N: We‘ve painted a few bits around East London and the Waterloo Leake Street tunnels.
H: I’m in too much trouble at the moment but keep your eyes peeled there will be more soon.
Who influence you the most, any favourite artist(s)?
N: Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Lucien Freud and Francis Bacon are all favourites.
H: the life and death of my dad was a big influence. I try and stay clear of being influenced by other artists too much.
Living as an artist is sometimes difficult financially, any part time job?
N: No money or real job at the moment.
H: nope just scraping what I can from my student loan
