Artasty Interviews

Interview with Dr D

What's your background? Art school? Self learner? Art for Dummies?

Had various dead end jobs after dropping out of college after a year, never studied art. started messing about with billboards for my own amusement.

Interview with Dr D

How will you describe your art for somebody who doesn't know your stuff?

I put things together mostly with posters using cut and paste with a knife and paste to present stuff that sits together as mildly amusing or socially relevant, on a good day, both.

Interview with Dr D

What are your favourite materials to work with?

Paper and paste.

Interview with Dr D

How long does it take you to produce a piece? Do you start out with a sketchbook or do you freehand all the way?

Sometimes a couple of hours, the most difficult thing is the idea that your trying to put across with other media.

Interview with Dr D

Where do you get your inspiration from?

The ideas quite often come from listening to the radio or friends. I then follow the idea and try and create it.

Interview with Dr D

Do you paint/draw/work outside sometimes? Where can we see your stuff?

I do things inside as much as possible with alterations coming when your up a ladder in situ.

Interview with Dr D

Who influence you the most, any favourite artist(s)?

Banksy, Jimmy Cauty, Ron English, Banksy for overall balls I think.

Living as an artist is sometimes difficult financially, any part time job?

I work full time and fit the art in where I can, don't make enough to live on it.

Interview with Dr D

What do you think of the current "Street Art" movement?

Some great artists but a bit too much Banksy bandwagon.

Best Gallery in the world? and why?

I'm not the sort of bod to have one, if it were an online gallery, WWW.ART-EL.CO.UK they actually care about what I'm doing.

Best City to paint outside? and why?

I've only ever done work in Berlin outside of London, loved it as they had so few cameras, I can't afford the globe trotting lifestyle.

Interview with Dr D

Beer and Fag or Tea and Biscuit?
