Artasty Interviews

Interview with K-guy

Where you from etc...

Originally a Pompey boy but have now lived in London as long as Portsmouth

Interview with K-guy

What’s your background? Art school? Self learner? Art for Dummies?

Art school

How will you describe your art for somebody who doesn’t know your stuff?

street art schisophrenia as I like to mix it up and play around with different types of mediums and executions. I’m as happy painting as I am creating installations.

Interview with K-guy

What are your favourite materials to work with?

anything that I feel works, no parametres.

Interview with K-guy

How long does it take you to produce a piece? Do you start out with a sketchbook or do you freehand all the way?

sketchbook but I generally just write words or phrases and then work stuff out from there. It does actually take me quite a long time to produce stuff although it soemtimes doesn’t look like it.

Interview with K-guy

Where do you get your inspiration from?

everywhere, though I guess most people would say I’m politically arsey.

Interview with K-guy

Do you paint/draw/work outside sometimes? Where can we see your stuff?

yes and all over the place but most of it gets wiped by the graff police. My Keep Britain Tidy piece still exists in Batemans Row, that’s about two years old.

Interview with K-guy

Who influence you the most, any favourite artist(s)?

I guess Jamie Reid is a big favourite but generally everyone, inspiration costs nothing so I embrace all creativity.even if I hate it.

Interview with K-guy

Living as an artist is sometimes difficult financially, any part time job?

I’ve done my bit in the santised world of corporate graphics so it’s massively liberating to break away from those restrictions and play around with dirtying stuff up, degrading images and conceptualising on a different level.

Interview with K-guy

What do you think of the current “Street Art” movement?

It’s gone a little corporate over the last year but that’s what happens to any street culture - it leaves the streets and becomes a business. Having said that... there’s some terriffic stuff still being done, you’ve just got to check out Wooster to see it.

Best Gallery in the world? and why?

I really love Black Rat, the brick arched ceiling and the pinpoint lighting - I have a feeling that even the worst example of art would look good exhibited in there.

Interview with K-guy

Best City to paint outside? and edwhy?

For me it’s London, it’s a privilege to live here but there’s empty boring walls in every town so let’s go and decorate.

Interview with K-guy

Beer and Fag or Tea and Biscuit?

ummmmm, both combo’s just different times of day

What are your plans in the near future? Any upcoming exhibitions?

My plans are to work hard and get a body of work together and do some solo shows early next year. Hopefully hooking up with the Brooklynite Gallery in NY and Urban Uprising in Oz. Other than that, my plans are to rock some new street pieces.
